Turkey day table décor for less
Thanksgiving tablescapes might just be my new favorite thing! I find that decorating your table can be pricy and quite boring when you adorne the same table as the next Target shopper. But lets not count Target out just yet. Their new-and-imroved dollar aisle is always a "do." This year, I wanted to create a tablescape that would be inexpensive and easy for the kids to help with.
Here's a List of things you will want:
Table runner
dried leaves
pinecones
medium sized apples
twigs or dried sticks
acorns
small round candles
a center piece of your choice
The trick to not spending too much, is to use pieces that you already possess. You can incorperate whatever you would like then go searching for the rest. For me, I already had a great yankee candle so I used that inside this adorable wire basket from the dollar isle. I also already had the two glass jars and I added a chalk-board label. I got them at Michaels. Everything else I had to gather.
The leaves were found on the way home when I spotted a gorgeous red maple tree. I simply picked up two branches that fell on a windy day. Try not to trespass on neighbors lawns... You dont wanna be decorating your jail cell for Turkey day. Parks are a great place to start!
I already had some adorable throws and pillows. If your eating inside (like normal people) get cozy! No one expects you to be uncomfortable. After all, the stuffing is gonna make you uncomfortable all on its own. Stretchy pants anyone?
The center piece should be small but sweet. My pinecones smell like cinnamon and my candle smells like pumpkin! its like a spicy pumpkin pie blend. YAAAAAS!
Sidenote: The basket was $3 from Target dollar aisle. (available only IN STORES!)
I also like to buy items that easily transition from season to season. This basket will soon be holding wine for the post-tramadic-stress of Christmas shopping...
Glass jars from Michaels to hold the sticks. They worked out perfectly! Plus, my three year old loved helping me gather them. He thought the were actual trees we picked!
I arranged my dry leaves in an arc above the center piece. But let your creative juices flow! Spread them out! Do what feels natural! Make it rain on these cones... Pinecones that is.
**Here's a tip: make sure the table is never left un-attended due to foilage being very, VERY flamable. Pinecones are made from wood so please take caution!**
The table runner was from Target and only $3! It may be small for your table so try getting two. The plates and napkins were also on sale at Target. $1.30 each. I'm trying to avoid doing dishes here people.
My apples were a bit small but I wanted to use what I had. I got these red babies at Trader Joes in a bag so i simply cored them and stuck a candle in em! They work great and come in so many colors!
**Heres a tip. Spray the inside of the apple with lemon juice to prevent browning**
So after purchasing everything I spent a grand total of $10.60. Thats like the $$ of two bougie coffees. Major score para mi!
This setup looked so pretty I left it up in hopes I can use it before it gets really cold! It does wonders to an urban city home like mine. Taking home a bit of nature lifts my heart and teaches little ones about their environment. Remember to enjoy yourselves and relax. Do what works for you. Thanksgiving is about family and friends and being thankful for them...
